GETTING TO KNOW YOU

PRELIMINARY CHARCOAL SELF-PORTRAIT
INTERMEDIATE 2-D ART
charcoal on newsprint

At the end of 4th quarter this last school year,
the final for my Intermediate students was to draw a self-portrait.
For several of them ,
this was their first time.
So I gave them a piece of newsprint and an hour to get to know themselves.
They used the clay storage refrig. doors to look at themselves,
and went deep into right brain to pull these off.
For the students in the Beginning 2-D class & myself,
it was really fun to watch them work.
This was a prelude exercise to the actual Self-Portrait assignment.

From left to right we have seniors Hazel Cruz,
Katherine Ku,
Risha Bhakta,
Bernice Lin & Kyla Balquin.

  1. Beautiful work by beautiful subjects ... they won't (can't?) realize that now, but someday they'll look back and see the truth of it.

  2. Oh, this is my favorite part of your class. Can't wait to see the portraits they do after taking your class.
